Busy Is Not a Business Model
We are slammed. We are so busy. Owners say it like a badge, but busy is not a business model, and being slammed is more often a symptom than a sign of health. In this episode, JT breaks down why most of the work filling your days is motion, not progress, and the three moves to get your time back without the business falling apart: learn to tell motion from progress, kill the work that feels productive but is not, and fiercely protect the handful of hours that actually move the needle. Ends with a one-week time audit that will show you exactly where your hours are leaking. The goal was never to be busy. It was to build something that works.
The goal was never to be busy. It was to build something that works.
A busy business and a healthy business can look identical from the outside. These three moves separate the motion that just tires you out from the progress that actually builds the thing.
Tell Motion From Progress
They feel identical from the inside. Motion is activity, progress is activity that moves the business toward its goal. Being tired is not the same as being effective, so start asking of every task: is this motion, or progress?
Kill the Work That Feels Productive but Is Not
Ask of every recurring task: if we stopped doing this, what would actually break? The honest answer is usually nothing. Most busywork is not load bearing, it is just old. Delete it, do not automate it.
Protect the Few Hours That Move the Needle
A small handful of activities create most of the results, and they are never urgent. Block your two or three highest leverage hours like a meeting with your most important client, and defend that time from everything loud but unimportant.
